Horizon Addis Tyre Manufacturing PLC Receives Kaizen Award

 

Addis Ababa, November 2, 2021:  Horizon Addis Tyre Manufacturing Plc today, November 2, 2021, has received a trophy and a certificate as it has won the third Africa Kaizen award as an outstanding performer in the large scale organizations category from the Africa continent.

The award announcement was made earlier at the Awarding Ceremony 2021 which was held at the African Kaizen Annual Conference (AKAC) 2021 on 25th of August 2021 in  Dar es Salaam, Tanzania,  but the handing over of the award was postponed due to COVID 19 pandemic at the moment.

Deputy Chief Representative of  the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Ms. Megumi Hirose and Director General of Ethiopian Kaizen Institute (EKI) Mr. Asnake Gudisa handed over the award in a ceremony held today at the premises of Horizon Addis Tyre Manufacturing Plc located southern part of the capital around Saris area. The company took part in the African Kaizen award organized by AUDA-NEPAD and JICA (The African Union Development Agency- New Partnership for Africa’s Development and JICA.

 

 The company named “Outstanding Performer” for its excellent activities on quality and productivity improvement and this will make the company exemplary for other African companies.

In his message in connection with the handing over of the Award, MIDROC Investment Group CEO Mr. Jemal Ahmed said “Horizon Addis Tyre manufacturing Plc was chosen and awarded as an outstanding performer as the large scale organization with a size of more than 250 employees and for its excellent activities on quality and productivity improvement – Kaizen. The recognition came as the company achieved better results which serve as model cases to be shared in Africa.”

Mr. Jemal also seized the opportunity to congratulate all members of the management and employees of the company over the outstanding achievement.

Moreover, the CEO reaffirms the support of the top management and owners of the company in the time to come to assist in the realization of further successes.

Speaking at the event, the guest of honor Mr. Asnake Gudisa who is also the acting Director General of EKI expressed his appreciation to the company for its exceptional performance and representation of all Ethiopian institution at the international arena.

The General Director pledged his institution’s support to the company in all its future endeavors and business undertakings.

Mr. Samuel Halala Kajella, Director General of the Institute of Chemicals and Construction Inputs Industry Development of Ethiopia also indicated that Horizon Addis Tyre Manufacturing PLC has always done commendable manufacturing exercises and his institution is ready to continue its usual support to help the company be more productive.

Horizon Addis Tyre Manufacturing Plc General Manager Mr. Getachew Abebe said “Ever since we implemented kaizen, it has helped us a lot to do our day-to-day activity in a better way. Kaizen philosophy has contributed to economic and social development of developing countries in various fields including industry, health, education and public service.”

             The General Manager added that Horizon Addis Tyre has improved its performance for the last 10 years continuously since managed by the former Horizon Plantation the current  Midroc Investment Group.

According to Mr. Getachew ,the company has implemented 1st phase kaizen in three months that was expected to take  6 months and proceeded to the second level/intermediate kaizen  by sustaining  the 1st phase kaizen making it part of its  working system.

As part of improving quality, productivity, competitiveness and building a good work cultures the company started the implementation of kaizen in October 2018 with unreserved effort and support of EKI.

Kaizen is a Japanese term meaning “change for the better” or “continuous improvement.” It is a Japanese business philosophy regarding the processes that continuously improve operations and involve all employees. Kaizen sees improvement in productivity as a gradual and methodical process.
